For Australians who'd rather not feel silly asking

Phones, email, video calls with the grandkids, scams, myGov, printers that won't print. Ask us anything. No jargon, no rushing, and no question is too small.

TechGuy helper
● Here to help, any time

TechGuy will never ask for passwords, PINs or codes. Please don't type them here.

G'day! I'm TechGuy's online helper. Ask me anything about your phone, computer, email or a message you're not sure about. I'll explain it step by step.

Up to 1,000 characters

TechGuy's helper is a computer program (AI) and gives general advice only. For anything about money, your bank or a possible scam, please talk to a real person first. Talk to a real person.

⚠️ SCAM ALERT

Scams doing the rounds right now

Example alerts for this mockup – to be updated weekly.

  • "Your parcel is on hold" texts. Fake delivery messages with a link. Australia Post and couriers won't ask you to pay by text link.
  • "Hi Mum, I've lost my phone" messages. A scammer pretends to be your child on a new number. Always call their old number to check.
  • Calls from "your bank" or "the NBN". Hang up and call back using the number on your card or bill. Never let a caller onto your computer.

TechGuy's three golden rules

  1. 1
Stop. Don't rush. Real organisations will wait.
  2. 2
Never share passwords or codes sent to your phone.
  3. 3
Check by calling a number you already know.

Think you've been scammed? Call your bank straight away, then call us. We'll help you take the next steps.

Help with your kids' screen time

Not sure how to set limits on the family iPad, the kids' phones or the games console? We'll set it up with you, explain it in plain English, and make sure you know how to change it later.

What we can set up

  • iPhone & iPad: Apple Screen Time and Family Sharing (downtime, app limits, "Ask to Buy")
  • Android phones & tablets: Google Family Link
  • Windows PCs & Xbox: Microsoft Family Safety
  • Nintendo Switch & PlayStation: the Nintendo parental controls app and PlayStation family settings
  • Home Wi-Fi: router controls such as bedtime "pause" and blocking adult websites
  • Age-appropriate settings: app store age ratings, YouTube Kids, safe search and privacy settings

Australia's social media minimum age

Since 10 December 2025, age-restricted social media platforms must take reasonable steps to stop Australians under 16 from creating or keeping an account. eSafety lists Facebook, Instagram, Kick, Reddit, Snapchat, Threads, TikTok, Twitch, X and YouTube among them. The list can change.

There are no penalties for children or parents. The responsibility sits with the platforms. Most standalone messaging and gaming apps (for example WhatsApp, Messenger and Roblox) and YouTube Kids are not currently age-restricted. That doesn't make them automatically safe, so parental controls still matter.
